Rainy day!!!!!

Last night I could sleep so at 2:00 am I walked 1 mile (part of the n'hood loop) it was beautiful out...It was about 70 degrees and windy. A storm was moving in and the sky was overcast so the lightning lit up the whole sky. It was like a flash of daylight for a second or two at a time. I beat the rain home or I would've walked the whole loop.

For breakfast this morning: two egg white/veg. omelet. Soup for lunch. I walked Sam down to Gavyn's house, taught the boys a new Judo throw, we had a mini work out. Then I walked home. (almost 1 mile there and back) Dinner was grilled boneless/skinless grilled chicken breast, Japanese Veg mix and rice ( I had a little more rice than I should have, oh well)

There might be a Sat. Judo work out tomorrow!!!!! I hope so.

I was just wondering if the same amount of calories is burned by walking one mile vs. running one mile. I mean scientifically speaking the same amount of work is being done, moving this mass over a specific distance, the same amount of work has been done, but at a slower rate of speed. Just wondering, I doesn't really matter since I cant run. But if any running vs. walking / fitness expert knows this answer go ahead and leave comments!!!! Thanks.

Walking with Sam

Yesterday I walked just about 3 miles with Sam, the loop through our neighborhood is 1.4 miles. We walked it twice. We kept imitating one of Sam's favorite YouTube posters, "The Angry Black Man". We cracked our selves up the whole walk. His videos are really funny, he stands out in front of common businesses like Starbucks, Toy R us and Wal-mart and rants about high prices, bad service and how the clerks wont give him their phone numbers. He's really funny!!!
   For breakfast; two egg whites, two oranges. Lunch: one can of Progresso low fat high fiber soup Italian something or other. Dinner: One can Progresso fat free chicken noodle soup, plus 1/2 small potato sauteed in olive oil added to soup.

This morning sauteed the other half potato in olive oil and poured two egg whites over it.
Lunch was another can of fat free chicken noodle soup from Progresso, not too bad but not as good as the regular stuff, I'll have to get used to that.

Judo was great tonight!!!!  I got a real good workout in. A new guy named Bob came to the club for the first time and I got to teach him all the basic stuff about falling and being thrown. It is VERY important to learn breakfalls or you can seriously injury your wrists, elbows and shoulders. He seemed to learn real fast. It was just 3 weeks ago that Tom started and he progressing very well, Bob should be a good addition to our club too. He's a bigger guy than most of the guys in our club (maybe 220-230lbs, he wasnt sure...I think 230 or so) so I will have another heavyweight player to train with, YAY!!! Anyway, tonight was a good total body work out, Judo is a lot of cardio but you use almost all of your muscle groups, Abs are a little sore tonight and I like it.....I cant wait for the tournement Feb. 12

Dinner is Japanese vegtables, boneless/skinless chicken breasts and 1/2 cup of rice

On The Way!!!!

Ok, so I weighed in today, no big surprises there, 321 lbs, but I've been at that same weight for over a year now. Our home digital scale kept telling me I weighed ERR.  I went to Publix with the hope that somehow I was under 300, no luck. I had to go to my Dr.'s office to hop on the scale, yep just as I expected 321. Although that number is kind of depressing, I'm glad it wasn't worse, I haven't weighed myself in a long time and I'm real happy it wasn't more, Whew!!!

Last night I walked a mile and a half. For breakfast this morning I had two scrambled egg whites with a half a piece of thin sliced cheddar cheese, one piece of dry toast and two oranges. I was on the run today and forgot lunch but I ate a protein bar and had a couple slices of roast beef. And for dinner I had an apple, two boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut up, with a cup of cut carrots and one pack of noodles.
(Me and Sam)

Tonight was Judo night and I had a really good work out, my Judo Gi was soaking wet at the end of training tonight. I am really proud of my son Sam, he's the reason I started going back to Judo. He's becoming quite the good little Judo player and I couldn't be more proud of him. There is a tournament coming up February 11 at Boynton Beach, FL. We both plan on playing. It will be Sam's first tournament. Also it will be two days after my 42nd birthday. I hope they have a heavyweight Masters division but no problem if I have to play the younger guys, I will play against anybody the put in front of me, win or lose Judo is about the competitive spirit, you try your best and give it your all, if you lose giving 100% there is no shame.
                                                    (Sam throwing for Ippon)

Judo is an Olympic Sport that was founded in 1882 by Professor Jigaro Kano. Professor Kano studied Jujitsu and took the dangerous elements of Jiujitsu out so Judo players would not always be injured during training.
(Me and Tom)
Judo was introduced into the Olympic Games in 1964 and is practiced by millions of people throughout the world today. People practice Judo to excel in competition, to stay in shape, to develop self-confidence, and for many other reasons. But most of all, people do Judo just for the fun of it.

(Again)
(and again)

(and again)
Judo, which is translated as the "gentle way", teaches the principle of flexibility in the application of technique. This is the flexible or efficient use of balance, leverage, and movement in the performance of Judo throws and other skills. Skill, technique and timing, rather than the use of brute strength, are the essential ingredients for success in Judo. For example, in Judo classes you may learn how to give way, rather than use force, to overcome a stronger opponent

   In competitive judo there are five ways to win a judo match. Each of these methods are listed below.

Perfect Throw;
Otherwise know as an Ippon, a perfect throw has four main components: Speed, Force, Control and a fall that lands largely on the back
Pin;
By holding ones opponent on their back for 25 seconds, the score of Ippon is awarded and the match is over. Holing your opponent 10 or more seconds can get you lower scores.
Arm Bar;
Otherwise know as an Arm Lock the goal is to force your opponent to "tap out," by applying stress (and Pain) to the elbow joint
Strangulation;
Much like the Arm Bar the goal is submission. You can suffer a loss from passing out or from tapping out.
Disqualification
Through unsportsman like conduct or a combination of lesser penalties.

My favorite is Ippon!!!! (Tom is tough!!!)

So training for Feb 12 has begun, I can't wait to play in another tournament, it's been a couple of years and I'm ready for competition, I need to push myself and train hard. It is good to have something to train for.

Getting Started January 17, 2011

I know its cliche, but I want my New Years Revolution (misspelled on purpose) to be losing a ton of weight this year. I didn't start on New Years Day because that would be WAY too cliche. My name is Chris Garbage and I live in Orlando Florida, I'm 41 years old I'm married to Deb and I have one son, Sam. I was in a hit and run accident Feb 1998, I was riding a bicycle and a car hit me and just kept on going, it shattered my tibia and broke my fibula in three places. The Ortho surgeon said it was the worst tib/fib break he'd ever seen that didn't end in fatality, he was most impressed that I didn't compound fracture. I was really lucky not to die, the surgeon said usually the foot comes off and you bleed to death in seconds. It was necessary to re break my leg Oct. to straighten it.  Before my accident I was in really good physical condition, I was in the gym 3 days a week, I played Judo 2 days a week and I cycled nearly every day, up until the accident. I have steadily gained weight since then. I know you are supposed to start this weight loss thing with a weigh in but I don't have a scale so I'll weigh in soon and report back. I would use the scale at Publix (locall grocery store) but it stops at 300, I max it out. Hahaha! If I were green I swear I'd look like Shrek!!!!!

  I own an appraisal business and my hobby is Judo. Well I actually look more like a Sumo wrestler than a Judo player and I'd like to change that. Physically I feel pretty strong but I don't have nearly the cardio I used to have. I took a couple of years off playing because my ankle and shoulder were continuously in pain. My son Sam started playing Judo this Spring and a couple weeks after I started. So my goal this year is to lose a ton of weight and to win at least one match at a tournament. The first goal might be tougher than the second!
